What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a work based qualification that helps individuals break into a professional career. With an apprenticeship, you have the chance gain industry experience and a nationally recognised qualification. There’s even a chance to be offered promotions and a full time position after completion!

Why Should I do an apprenticeship?

When it comes to finding employment, having relevant hands on experience is more important than ever. An apprenticeship will give you the skills and insight into industry standards and practices. Many employers these days would rather find someone with experience and knowledge, rather than focus on grades or a university degree (Though these are still highly regarded).

An apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to have a full time position while you learn. You will receive on the job training from one of our excellent standard training providers, receive a qualification, prove your ability and lend authenticity to your CV.

Benefits of Apprenticeships

Earn While You Learn: Get a salary while gaining industry-specific skills.

Industry Exposure: Dive into your chosen field from day one.

Hands-On Experience: Work on real projects and tasks.

No College Days: Focus on practical skills without traditional classroom constraints.

As long as you are 16 or over and no longer in full time education, you can apply for an apprenticeship.

This is determined by the employer and position, but most employers look for candidates with A*- C (9 – 4) in GCSE or equivalent (Functional Skills Level 2). Some employers may also asked for more tailored qualifications, especially for digital or higher level apprenticeships.

Yet, if a candidate shows an aptitude for the subject area and has evidenced interest previous to applying, it is rare for the candidate not to be considered.

The National Minimum Wage for apprentices in their first year is £4.81 an hour as of April 2022. However, some employers pay rates more than this. Hourly wage often depends on the particular vacancy, age and the applicant’s experience.

Many employers will increase rate of pay after 3-6 months, then to minimum wage for your age after 12 months.

Depending on the apprenticeship you are looking to complete, the qualification can take between 12 – 21 months. Apprenticeships in Childcare, Teaching, IT and Digital Marketing will be between 12 – 15 months. Business Administration will take 12 months to complete.

If you are aged between 16 to 18, training will be fully funded 100% by the Government. Those aged between 19 and 24 will have 95% of their training cost funded by the Government and 5% by the employer. So if you are worried about loans and overdrafts, there is no need to be.

How the training is delivered depends on the training provider, but all apprentices will have a tutor to guide through the apprenticeship. Currently everything is done online; including tutor sessions/updates, coursework and more

Most apprentices progress onto permanent employment once the apprenticeship is completed. Some apprentices further their career with a promotion in the field, whilst others continue to the next Level qualification in their sector.

You will be paired with a tutor for an Ofsted rated training provider, who will guide you through the qualification. No matter what qualification or sector you are completing your apprenticeship in, coursework, exams and assessments will be a vital element. Your fantastic tutor will also offer advice through online calls and face to face visits. 360 Apprenticeships can also offer an alternative sense of guidance and support that many educational systems don’t have the resources to facilitate.
