Research before you apply – every single time
Generic applications get binned fast. Spend 20 minutes on the company’s website before writing a single word. What do they actually do? Who are their clients? What do they talk about on social media? Then weave that into your cover letter so it is impossible for them to copy-paste your application and send it elsewhere.
Try this: Find one thing the company has done recently – a new client, a social post, a piece of news – and mention it specifically. It shows you pay attention, and that is exactly what every employer wants in their team.

Helping in a family shop is customer service, stock management, and sales. Every thing you have done has a professional translation – you just need to find the right words for it.
Try this: Write down five things you do outside of school – hobbies, responsibilities at home, volunteering, part-time work, anything. Now write one sentence next to each using professional language. That is the start of your personal statement.

Prepare for interviews before you get them
Most candidates wait until they land an interview to start preparing. Beat them by practicing now. Rehearse answers to the five questions that come up in nearly every apprenticeship interview – and do it out loud, not just in your head. Try this: After any interview, write down three things that went well and one thing to improve. Do it within an hour while it is fresh. After five interviews, you will be a completely different candidate to the one who walked in first.
